TruStage
UX Design Internship
Project Overview
As a part of a summer internship, one of the projects I worked on was improving the secondary navigation of their website.
Duration
June 2023 - August 2023
My Contributions
My role as a part of the project was mostly individual work with guidance from a Senior UX Designer, alongside feedback from other UX Designers. I completed secondary research for the project as well as designing mockups and prototypes.
Current Secondary Navigation
I was assigned to rework the secondary navigation of the company's website as currently how it works needed to be improved on. The secondary navigation functions as a quick links section at the side in the middle of the page when a user is scrolling and reading through it. In a brainstorming session with a design team, we came up with different potential solutions on how to make the navigation more intuitive and effective.
Some of the ideas that we thought of was secondary navigation through breadcrumbs, making the navigation for a website page only local (i.e. no breadcrumbs), and others which are shown below. We decided on moving forward with exploring breadcrumb navigation, local navigation only, and an app-style bottom navigation.

Breadcrumb Navigation Mockups
After designing several mockups of distinct ways for the secondary navigation which some are displayed above, I presented them to my senior UX design manager. After discussing together, we decided that the local navigation with the dropdown would be the best fit. Afterwards, I created a working prototype for the dropdown local navigation and presented it to the rest of the UX designers in my team for feedback.
